Overview
12-part documentary series for Grubhub exploring the backgrounds, cultural roots, and survival stories of independent restaurants navigating the pandemic.
We directed and shot a 12-part documentary series for Grubhub exploring the backgrounds, cultural roots, and survival stories of independent restaurants navigating the pandemic.
Each film centered on the restaurant owner’s personal story: their background, their food, and the risk behind opening a small business in New York City. We focused on cultural identity, memory, and the emotional reality of running a restaurant during a period of extreme uncertainty. The series blended verité interviews with cinematic kitchen footage to create work that felt human, not commercial. The campaign documented a moment in restaurant history while giving owners space to speak in their own voice.
Restaurants Featured Included Adda, Madame Vo, Pig and Khao, Fieldtrip, Lighthouse, and Baz Bagels.
